AWARENESS
why party?
Sadly, for many of us, how we feel on the dancefloor is very different to how we feel about the world, our shared home. Our world is changing very quickly and today we cannot escape the reality of the suffering and death that is caused by man-made poverty. As our world gets hotter and the rich get richer, 50,000 people are killed by Poverty each and every day; yet the people we have elected to run the World remain inactive.
In a nutshell, things must be run better and more equally. In a nutshell our leaders must act now. We believe that we will crack that nut through party!
Party against Poverty aims to use the things we love – music and dance – against the things we hate – extreme man-made poverty - to create a sense of global unity: an understanding that we are all equal, all part of the same family and all share the desire to have fun, live our dreams and grow a beautiful family. We believe that the cultural differences between us should be celebrated and explored rather than feared and persecuted and that we can all join the party in whatever way makes us and those around us, feel best: whether in a nightclub or a rainforest; a dance hall or a beach!
However, you haven’t partied against poverty unless you have signed your petition as our leaders have yet to give us a reason to celebrate (in Edinburgh and around the world the people roared but the G8 whispered). In 2005 they can and must by fulfilling the demands of the Global Call to Action against Poverty.
If you Party against Poverty you dance in solidarity with thousands of others around the world as we are creating something far stronger than just a party…we are creating global friendships that will get stronger and stronger the closer we get to our goal to Make Poverty History!
Or, more simply put, as someone once said "We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams." Enjoy!
